The New Wife has been on a two week hiatus because work at my *real* job has been quite busy. Yesterday I was lucky enough to join our 5th graders on their first visit to Broadway to see the Lion King. It was so great to see theatre through their eyes for the very first time. It reminded me of all the times I was fortunate to go see Broadway shows with my grandparents growing up in Manhattan....

Anyways, back to the wifely news. Today in the Post there was a cheesy article on Valentine's Day and how it holds more significance for singletons than marrieds. But we already knew that. It did, however, mention Breakup News which is hilarious. This is what the site says:

I love it! There's even a database of assholes.  And another where you can bitch about your breakup and subject each post with your ex's forlorn name. Something I definitely would've been interested in back in the day...enjoy.te married people? Tired of engagement news? Get the skinny on recently ruptured romances.

Plus one?

I was talking with a friend who is planning her upcoming wedding and we were talking about one of the most anxiety-provoking parts of the whole thing - do you invite your single friends with or without a guest?

Traditionally, friends are only invited with a guest if they are engaged or living with their partner. Of course, there are exceptions on either side.  When I was dating Steve for just six months, the two of us were invited to a friend of his wedding, but I think that is really rare. Of course, a lot depends on this rule. For example, all bridesmaids and groomsmens should be invited plus one. If you have any close friends that don't fall into either of these two categories, and they just started dating someone seriously, and you have the room, (and you want them there) then go ahead.

Don't also forget that this is where the A and B list come in handy. Once you send out your invites and the RSVP date has passed, and you realize you have a couple more seats to fill, that's the perfect time to go ahead and extend your plus one invite to any guests that fall in this gray area. This way, everyone is a winner!

Shecky's Girls Night Out

I've never been to a Shecky's Girl Night Out but I've heard they are a blast. Visit vendors in the   Puck Building as you sip on your (all you can drink) cosmopolitans, get free goodie bags, and great deals on all the latest trends and fashions! You can take care of your bridesmaid gifts and fill up your out-of-town bags with special tokens and beautiful jewels all in one fell swoop.

The event is March 7th-9th from 4:30-10 at the Puck Building downtown.  Buy your tickets early as you get a better deal than paying at the door! And if you go on opening night, make sure to check out the fabulous jewelry of  Designs by Hillary.

A Snowy Getaway

This past week Steve and I went skiing in Deer Valley, Utah and I have to say it was one of our best vacations EVER! I absolutely love skiing but Deer Valley is such a gorgeous mountain - we skiied with no lift lines, and were able to eat lunch atop the mountain each day, slushing down the mountain with the sun in our face. Staying at the Stein Erikson lodge definitely took skiing to another level. The lodge is located on the top of the mountain, so all you have to do is put your skis on and ski down to the bottom of the line - no schlepping whatsoever. Not to mention there were people there that literally help you put your boots on, and take them off after a long day of skiing. Can you believe? When we returned to our room we had our own hot tub on our balcony overlooking the mountain. We met lots of interesting people - many who thought we were honeymooning. But this is such a perfect place to honeymoon - not only is it amazing during the winter, but in the summer Utah is home to beautiful hiking, kayaking, fly fishing, hot air ballooning and so much more! If you are look ing for a different type of honeymoon place I absolutely suggest the Stein!

I've received a mixed bag of comments related to the "Bachelor in Paris" posts, and one from a fiesty reader I'll refer to as "S."  S had a problem with me referring to the women on the Bachelor as "sad" and "desperate."  She wrote that since I base my "public persona" on being married, I should be more sensitive to those who enlist themselves on a reality-tv show to find a husband. Hmmm...though I'm flattered, "S", that you believe me to have a public persona, I actually do not. Until you see me on the Isaac Mizrahi show doing my thing and meeting my hero, then a public entity I am not.

As far as being sensitive to reality-tv contestants? Puh-lease. These girls are putting themselves out there on television to find a HUSBAND for goodness sakes. For the 24 losing women that go home empty-handed balled up kleenex in hand, do you think they are really sobbing over the man they claim to be "in love" with? Or rather, or they grieving over this fantasy of marriage the reality of which passed them over?
